Lauren was born at home in California alongside her parents and close friends. She began ballet lessons with the Cary Ballet Conservatory of North Carolina at the age of 11 years old. Lovette is a native of Thousand Oaks, California and began her ballet training at the age 11. She then went on to study in the Cary Ballet Conservatory in North Carolina,
and then followed by School of American Ballet.

in 2009 Lovette was accepted into the New York City Ballet as an apprentice. 2010 saw her enrolled in the company’s corps ballet, and 2013 , saw her promoted to soloist. She was promoted to principal dancer in the year 2015. In the New York City Ballet she has performed diverse repertoire, which includes both classical and modern pieces composed by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky, and Christopher Wheeldon.
In addition, she presented the performance to Michelle Obama and Barack Obama as part of the 2014 Kennedy Center Honors honoring Patricia McBride. Through her work For Clara, commissioned by New York City Ballet, Lovette made her debut as choreographer on herself in the year 2016.
She also wrote two other work for the company: Not Our Fate (2017) and The Shaded Line (2019) and also other works in Damian’s Vail Dance Festival and American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company. In the year 2019 she also was the Vail Dance Festival’s Artist-in Residence. She has worked with musicians Kate Davis, poet Andrea Gibson and fashion designer Zac Posen Narciso Rodriguez Fernando Garcia along with Laura Kim of Oscar de la Renta/MONSE have all been working alongside her.
The New York Times declared her choreography for 2019 that “Ms. Lovette’s determination to change ballet into something new creates a sense of urgency. She has crossed the point of beauty to strength.”
Lovette left The New York City Ballet in October 2021. She said she was “very happy about the next stage of her career” and she’d have “the time to explore new ideas as a choreographer as well as a dancing.” She danced Robbins Opus 19/The Dreamer, as well as Ratmansky’s Namouna A Grand Divertissement during her last performance in October. She was selected to become the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s choreographer of residence until March 2022..
